INS545: PAX-IT IMAGE DATABASE AND IMAGE ANALYSIS WORKSHOP (FORMERLY COM520)
The field of digital imaging continues to grow in many different applications: material science, semiconductor, life science, pathology, forensics, law enforcement, defense, pharmaceutical, quality control, welding, and failure analysis. Images can be captured using a variety of different digital devices including; microscope cameras, hand held cameras, SEM’s, analog cameras, scanners, or by importing existing collections. This hands-on workshop deals with the challenges associated with archiving and managing all the digital images and digital files that your organization creates on a daily basis; images that document your work, data basing, communication through reports and presentations, making measurements and perform specific image analysis routines.

- Students are exposed to a software tool that enables you to manage, database, and analyze your images quickly and easily. A combination of demonstrations and hands-on lab exercises cover the most important aspects of image management and analysis. Attendance is limited to ensure effective interaction between students and the instructors.
Anyone who works with and manages digital images on a regular basis including:
- Scientists
- Lab workers
- Production personnel
- Technicians
- Researchers
- PAX-it demonstration software
- Each student is provided with a laptop during the course

- Basic knowledge of digital imaging and capture.
Students are expected to successfully complete a variety of tasks in the form of hands-on exercises, laboratory exercises, identifications of unknowns, and quizzes. In addition, the students are required to have 100% attendance during the course, participate in class, complete a student evaluation form and pre and post course assessment forms.
The student is notified at the end of the course whether or not they have successfully completed the requirements of the course based on:
- 100 % attendance
- class participation
- completion of all course material
- completed and signed student evaluation form
- completed pre and post course assessment forms.
Upon successfully meeting these requirements, a student is awarded a certificate of completion and IACET CEU credits, if available. Those who have not successfully passed the course requirements do not receive a certificate or IACET CEU credits.
