EDU605: FORENSIC WORKSHOP FOR MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL SCIENCE TEACHERS (FORMERLY COM902)

The Forensic Workshop is designed to help Middle and High School  science teachers develop forensic science lessons to use in their classrooms. Teachers learn time-honored and specialized forensic science methods that can be applied to a wide variety of middle and secondary school science lessons. The outline below lists some of the major topics that will be developed and practiced during the week.

What You Will Learn
  • How to effectively implement forensic science lessons and exercises to use for teaching science throughout the school year 
Who Should Enroll
  • Middle and High School science teachers, (limit two teachers from a single school)
  • Enrollment will be limited to a maximum of 20 students

  • Detailed course manual
  • Stereomicroscopes and compound microscope.
Suggested Prerequisites
  • Certified Middle and High School science teachers
  • Letter of recommendation from School Principal.
Satisfactory Completion Requirements

Students are expected to successfully complete a variety of tasks in the form of hands-on exercises, laboratory exercises, identifications of unknowns, and quizzes. In addition, the students are required to have 100% attendance during the course, participate in class, complete a student evaluation form and pre and post course assessment forms. 

The student is notified at the end of the course whether or not they have successfully completed the requirements of the course based on:
 
  • 100 % attendance
  • class participation
  • completion of all course material
  • completed and signed student evaluation form
  • completed pre and post course assessment forms. 
 
Upon successfully meeting these requirements, a student is awarded a certificate of completion and IACET CEU credits, if available. Those who have not successfully passed the course requirements do not receive a certificate or IACET CEU credits.
